Something(s) Beautifully Built is ride that celebrates a collection of beautifully crafted objects, spaces & places in Long Beach.
Long Beach has long been a major component in the progressive arts & engineering culture that is a prominent feature of the Southern California zeitgeist. Historically home to a nexus of aerospace, automotive, and architectural designers and thinkers, Long Beach has helped foster and further some of the greats of American Ingenuity.
It can also be argued that, at the center of all of this design and engineering lies the heart of Long Beach’s Arts Culture, and most notably the city’s foremost University Creative Hub, the University Art Museum.
Currently on display at the University Art Museum is a retrospective of M_A’s body of work from 2002 – 2013, which, in and of itself, represents a nexus of some of the most progressive thinkers and makers in the fields of architecture and fine arts design in Los Angeles and beyond. To explore those who have helped shape our local landscape with structure, spaces, ideas and objects, we’ll be taking a tour of some of Long Beach’s historically most prominent modern architectural work.
The ride begins and ends at Cal State University Long Beach’s University Art Museum, a space that is not only central to the campus but also central to a thriving Arts Culture in the City of Long Beach. The tour visits a number of high, mid-century, and post-modern buildings, and includes a bike ride that takes us through the vast and varied landscape of Long Beach.
