Getty Marrow Undergraduate Public Programs Internship

Materials & Applications (M&A) is currently seeking a Getty Marrow Undergraduate Public Programs Intern who will work closely with our Director and Program Committee in organizing, coordinating, and executing tasks related to public programming and event operations at our three locations: M&A headquarters in Chinatown, M&A Courtyard at Craft Contemporary, and M&A Storefront on Sunset.

The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Public Programs Intern will assist the M&A team in planning and coordinating with participants in our programs, including artists, architects, performers, and outside experts. Current projects include M&A's annual summer outdoor installation in Mid-City, an upcoming storefront installation in Echo Park, a mutual aid initiative, and experimental radio space. The Public Programs Intern will assist the full spectrum of operations at Materials & Applications, from event support to development and communications. 

The Programs Intern will receive a $7,100 stipend and work 40 hours a week, typically between 9 am-5 pm but potentially after hours and over the weekend when events require.

Tasks and responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinate and communicate with artist & architect teams, M&A Staff, and Program Board

  • Assist with research, project development, management and production for all public programming

  • Write and edit program-related materials, including program descriptions for web and print, open calls, and press releases

  • Capture and edit images for archive-purposes, communications, grants, and other M&A media-related purposes

You are someone who:

  • Has an interest in contemporary art and architectural practice

  • Enjoys working with architects and artist teams and is excited to expand their understanding of critical practices in architecture

  • Seeks experience in arts administration and non-profit work

  • Has leadership attributes with an ability to work independently, or with a variety of constituents, including non-profit boards and practicing architects and artists

  • Has strong interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Is highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and self-starting

The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program requires candidates to:

  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of Los Angeles County

  • Be a member of a group underrepresented in careers related to art conservation, museums, and/or visual arts organizations, which can include groups defined by, among other things, socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2024. Students who graduated the semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. Students enrolled in a second BA or BS are not eligible.

  • Be a US Citizen, permanent resident, or with DACA status valid through the internship period
